Special Needs Expertise

I have an understanding of working with special needs including various forms of neurodiversity such as Autism spectrum disorder (in particularly ASD1), attention deficit disorder and various mental health challenges such as anxiety disorders (in particular bipolar I). I also have personal experience supporting families with special needs members including physical and neurological conditions such as Cerebral Palsy and Down Syndrome.

In cases of mental health challenges I require that the person to be working with a psychologist and/or psychiatrist. I have worked with several local and international specialists ranging from general practitioners, to a variety of psychologists and psychiatrists.

I also offer assistance in finding the additional support that may be required.

About me

I have spent the last 24 years working at an international financial services company as a strategy manager. This allowed me to work in various countries including over 15 countries in Africa, the United Kingdom, Italy and most recently China. Having achieved a Masters in Future Studies in 2008, I spent most of my corporate career working on medium to long-term strategy development and large-scale programmes with multidisciplinary teams.

While I enjoyed working with business executives and directors through the toughest questions they faced, I have always wanted to return to focus on the next generation of leaders, so returning to my industrial and general psychology background, I see life coaching as my next calling.

I want to continue to help give people direction, focus, tools, challenge and support, to become the best version of themselves. This in turn will help them make the greatest and most meaningful impact on the world.  I offer an initial structured package for those who want a place to start, but I am happy to take the lead with those who are clear on what they want to focus on.

Following a difficult divorce, which saw me in court trying to gain access and custody of my son for more than a decade, which still resulted in me suffering parental alienation, at the end of 2023 I was subjected to a prolonged court matter, due to vexatious litigation.
Rolf assisted me for the six months of the court process.
During that time, drawing on his academic and life experiences, Rolf helped me to work on my personal problems which caused me to suffer mental health challenges of anxiety, followed by a nervous breakdown (due to the prolonged court process.)
Rolf helped me gain focus, and manage my emotions as well as the limiting thoughts and beliefs.
We worked on pursuing business opportunities in those difficult circumstances.
Later, for three months, he worked with both me and my fiancé as we navigated a difficult time in our relationship, where I needed medication and hospital care, under the supervision of a psychiatrist.
Rolf further assisted me by engaging with the psychiatrist both overseas and other local medical specialists in South Africa, drawing on his 4 years of psychology studies.
I am now looking forward to the next exciting chapter in my career and life.
Rolf is a calm compassionate person, with many years of business experience. He is forward-thinking and helped me to create a vision of my desired future and steps to work towards achieving it.

WHAT TO EXPECT?

Life coaching seeks to help people establish and move towards achieving their goals by assisting them in becoming aware of their capabilities and potential, in both personal and professional arenas. It can assist with addressing challenging behaviour, limiting cognitive thinking, and can support people to problem-solve a variety of challenges and growth objectives

What is your role and what is the role of the life coach

Your role is to:

  • Make our coaching sessions a priority – you have chosen to invest in yourself.
  • Before each session, review what we have been working on
  • Ensure any action steps or homework has been accomplished to the best of your ability
  • The most crucial part is for you to have an idea of what you’d like to take away from the session. Coaching is strongly based on your agenda
  • Arrive on time for every session.
  • Come to your session centred, and be willing to change your beliefs and patterns if they do not serve you anymore
  • Give me feedback in the moment

My role is to:

  • Listen closely to you, respond to what I hear and ask often hard questions.
  • If I hear something in your voice or body language that sparks an intuitive idea, thought or image, I’m likely to share it and ask you questions about it
    • Often it is these small nuances that create the bigger shifts.
    • Remember, if it doesn’t resonate, tell me. I’m not attached to being right
  • At the end of the session, if you do not mention what actions you are ready to take, I will make a coaching request
  • I will ask often you to stretch yourself and deepen the work done in the sessions by either journaling at home, taking a defined action, resolving relationships or tackling things that feel incomplete
  • You are free to negotiate or accept the request, but it will not always be a comfortable discussion or choice
